Broccoli is considered an incredible cruciferous vegetable that is known for its amazing nutrient values. Loaded with fibres and water content, broccoli has just 34 calories per 100 grams. As it contains fibres, you would feel fuller even if you consume smaller portions of it. So, broccoli is highly recommended to be included in your daily diet if you are trying to lose weight.

One of the most important qualities of broccoli is that it can improve gut health. As it can control the cholesterol levels, studies have shown that broccoli reduces the chance of heart ailments and cancer. Broccoli contains beta carotene which helps in improving eye sight. Besides, the vitamin K makes the bones stronger. Pregnant women could consume broccoli as it is loaded with folate. Meanwhile, the vitamin C increases the immunity and flushes out the toxins.

How to store it

• However, it is better to avoid broccoli that has yellow flowers and brown stem. The stem should be moist.

• Broccoli could be stored in plastic bags and kept in fridge. Leaving it unwrapped would cause the buds to wilt faster.

• It should be washed only before cooking or consuming it. Ensure that the broccoli is dry before you wrap it loosely in a plastic cover.

• These will stay good for a week or longer in the fridge. If you want it to last longer, freeze the broccoli and thaw it before using.

Broccoli tastes best when steamed, sautéed or roasted in the oven. You could add broccoli in a fresh salad. However, having steamed broccoli is the most healthiest way. You could also add finely chopped broccoli in omelettes to make it healthier.
