It’s a cult anti-ageing product you can sprinkle in your morning juice, coffee or smoothie – providing beauty, youth and radiance in a cup.
Although collagen powders aren’t new, this particular product has quickly earned a faithful following for its radical results.
In fact, the Par Olive products are so popular, one sells every four minutes around the globe.
Founder Boyd Smith said she created Par Olive after her “personal experience” with collagen powders.
“As a beauty editor, after founding Par Olive as an online digital magazine covering all things beauty and wellness, I was fortunate enough to try every collagen supplement out there,” she said.
“They promised the world, but cut costs where it really counted.”
So, she set about creating her own, working with an incredible team of microbiologists, dermatologists, naturopaths and dieticians.
And after a two-year process, Pearl Marine Collagen Superpowder was born.
After 18 months, it was picked up by leading beauty store Sephora, and quickly caught the attention of local celebrities, including Lisa Wipfli and celebrity skincare expert, Melanie Grant.
Justin Bieber’s model wife Hailey Bieber also recently went viral with her Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie, which is loaded with collagen peptides, antioxidants and healthy fats to help achieve a glowing complexion.
Here’s the full recipe using Pearl Marine Collagen Superpowder in organic coconut flavour:
Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup fresh strawberries for glaze
1/2 cup canned coconut cream
2 pitted dates
1/4 cup frozen avocado
1 tbsp. maple syrup
1/2 cup almond milk
1. Blend fresh strawberries into a purée, then set aside.
2. Blend PEARL Marine Collagen, frozen strawberries, pitted dates, frozen avocado, maple syrup, and almond milk until smooth.
3. Add coconut cream to the bottom of your glass. Then, pour in the purée.
4. Pour the blended smoothie to the top of the glass.
5. Stir the ingredients with your reusable straw, and enjoy.
Collagen is the most abundant protein naturally found in the human body and when we have plenty of it our skin looks plump, firm and youthful and our hair and nails appear healthy and strong.
However, from the age of 25 collagen production slows down and our stores begin to deplete by 1-2 per cent each year.
Those stores can be replenished by consuming treated marine collagen taken from fish skin but not all collagen products are created equal.
Many collagen powders do not stipulate where their collagen comes from.
So one batch could be sourced from China, another from Brazil, leading to poor quality control and contamination from fish byproducts such as fish scales and jellyfish.
Par Olive uses only wild-caught cod skin, sourced from Norway only, as this is the highest quality and has the most sustainable practices worldwide.
The brand also goes above and beyond when it comes to quality control – tracing the time of catch, boat registration and area in Norway where the collagen was sourced.
“Pearl was inspired by need,” Boyd Smith said.
“There wasn’t a product to my standard of purity or efficacy on the market, so I called in the professionals and made it myself.”
Fans have flocked online to share their reviews of the product.
“Amazing!” wrote one. “This is the first collagen product I have used where I have seen amazing results!
“I’ve been using this powder every day for a total of 3.5 weeks now and I’m noticing a huge difference in the clarity of my skin already.”
The clean ingestible beauty brand is now the only sustainably sourced collagen brand that has been certified by the MSC, the governing body which certifies the sustainable fishing of wild-caught fish.
So looking good doesn’t have to cost the earth.
